One Question

Answering Those Everyday Questions

What’s the scariest thing in the world?

We were debating this topic in One Question restaurant this morning over coffee.

OK. I exaggerated wildly there. The One Question restaurant is also know as Kate’s Cafe and is open to all comers, but we like to think of it as our own special space. We certainly spend a lot of our pennies there.

We’re not talking serious stuff here like the end of the world, or hideous illness. We hope we are all spared such fates. No, we were talking stuff that scares us, you know, like: spiders, or birds, snakes, dogs, ladders, bridges, men, commitment, rugby, dirt, flying, height, your girlfriend, your mum, the Moto sign on motorway service stations, cold cups of tea left on the bedside, you know, all that logical stuff.

Tracey has just shouted across the office – smooth peanut butter.

Oh, that’s got us going again, the list will need to continue:

Marmite, boiled eggs, lifts, bad breath on someone else.

And an interesting one – bad breath on yourself. It’s gotta be baaaaaad to be able to tell your own is a little less than fresh! This has sparked a row of comments even as I type, seems like this is quite a fear.

Cellophane wrappers on CDs! Bobby has just come out with that and been challenged that it’s something she hates, not something she fears. But Bobby contested that it has gone way beyond that. She reckons it was anger once, but now it’s so bad she has come to fear the anger that ensues if she has to denude a tightly wrapped CD.

But this banter could go on all afternoon, and we have already made our conclusion.

We believe that FEAR itself is the scariest thing in all our worlds.

We reckon that although there are many things that deserve our apprehension, it’s the fear itself that keeps us awake, makes us worried, stops us from being able to eat, makes us want to smoke (oops, did I admit that?), or do a little wee (that’s the girls for you).

If you fear a person they have unlimited power over you. Don’t show your fear!

“Fear Fooks You Up” we said.

Fear is the force. Feel the force.
